Idiot Glee may be coming on Rainy Dawg for Milk and Cookies this Saturday March 10th. I say may, because he is a busy guy coming down from Canada and he may not get here in time. Regardless, go see him and Islands at the Vera Project that night, it should be a great show.

Jonquil - Point of Go Review

Oxford based Jonquil’s first release in the states One Thousand Suns EP was a sparkling pop burner, the voice of Hugo Manuel ricocheted over fast paced Latin rhythms and simple guitar parts. The band fleshes out some of the ideas in that aforementioned and manic 22 minute EP into a 40 minute full length called Point of Go. For this new album, Jonquil slows down the mix and adds more instruments. The slower and more laid back feel works against their own sound, however. “This Innocent” dawdles to a stand still and the layering of sounds doesn’t build to anything of note, it only drags the listener along without arriving. This song and a few others fall flat, especially when compared to tracks that are reminiscent of the band’s previous release. “Mexico” is one of those tracks, constantly shifting, covered in glitter, an airy indie-pop jam. The first single is the real gem of the album, “Its My Part” blends burning guitar, the voice of Manuel, and a straight forward, wood block driven rhythm into a soda sweet track. Jonquil’s new album is half good. It shines when they incorporate dance rhythms into their easy going pop music. But half the songs stray from this and don’t achieve anything.

This Saturday, January 28th, listen to Milk and Cookies on Rainy Dawg Radio. The band will be Seattle based 90s rock enthusiasts Posse. They will play at 2:45 and eat cookies soon after. Also, check out their new music video, RIYL: Uggs. Their new album is available now on their Bandcamp. A digital download is $5, a real life CD is $10.

They play the Comet Tavern along with Jeremy Jay and former cookie enjoyers The Curious Mystery on January 29th.

Join host Hans and band The Curious Mystery on Saturday January 14^th for an in-studio on the show Milk and Cookies. The K records artist will bring their spaced out and mystifying psychedelic rock and appetite for cookies to Rainy Dawg Radio. If you are curious about what type cookie will be present, it will be something chocolaty and nutty, but the actual type of cookie will no be revealed yet. Tune in at around 2:30 to solve the mystery of what type of cookie it will be.

Also, that Saturday, The Curious Mystery plays at the Tractor Tavern along with Lonesome Shack and Sugar Sugar Sugar. There will likely be no cookies there.
